TR2 / TR3 / TR3A Auspuffanlage(n)

Typisches Problem ist, dass die Auspufftöpfe, vor allem der Hauptschalldämpfer zu groß sind.

Regarding your front muffler drama, you won't want to be hearing this now, but it should have been only 5" wide x 3“ deep x 24" long.

Some suppliers are wrongly shipping a monster sized muffler about 7.5“ wide x 4" deep x 24“ long, which is far too big, and at least two owners here have also had to cut a front angled corner like you. As you comment Menno, „it will fit“ should mean exactly that when you hand over good money.

I used a 5" x 3“ x 20" long (off the shelf) front muffler for ease of fitting, and although of straight through construction, even with extractors, it met noise regulations for 1958 vehicles without needing the second tailpipe muffler. (Reading was 92.3 dB @ 2000rpm) It cost just $50 at the local exhaust shop.

So for the record, here are the original sized mufflers fitted to sidescreen cars, which might save others the trouble and expense of having to chop off a corner of an oversized muffler.

First TR2's up to TS 2531……..1 off 5“ x 3" x 18“ front muffler only. (established the „noisy TR“ reputation)
TR2 to TR3 TS11176………….. 1 off 5" x 3“ x 24" front muffler only.
Later TR3/3A/3B………………. 1 off 5“ x 3" x 24“ front muffler/ 1 off 5" x 3“ x 12" rear muffler

Das Problem besteht heute noch, die „normalen“ Abmessungen sind so wie beschreiben und selbst erfahren.

Der vordere Auspufftopf kollidiert mit Rahmen, Fahrzeugboden und Hinterachse und ist ohne Nachbearbeitung nicht zu montieren.

Bedingt durch die Abmessungen kommt es zu Berührungen im Fahrbetrieb.

Abhilfe: Teilweise soll es kleinere Töpfe geben, ich konnte es noch nicht verifizieren.
